This page provides information in English about SPON (Stichting Project Orkest Nederland – Foundation Project Orchestra the Netherlands).
Who are we?
SPON (Foundation Project Orchestra the Netherlands) is a foundation that every year brings together (on average) 70 highly motivated advanced amateur musicians from all over the Netherlands with a passion for wind instruments under the guidance of an enthusiastic (professional) conductor. This is the SPON Symphonic Wind Orchestra.
Each year we start a project in October. In the Spring of the following year the foundation and its musicians go abroad for a 5-day tour to give 3 concerts. The SPON symphonic wind orchestra is unique because it exists only for the duration of one project. After the final concert in the Netherlands the orchestra is disbanded and the next project is started up. Each year the composition of the group is different (although a number of members take part every year). Every project has a different (new) conductor.
Aims of SPON
- Enhancing the quality of amateur music, by bringing together a group of people who share the same passion and for whom musical quality is paramount.
- Ensuring that making music in this orchestra is an enrichment for the musicians themselves and ultimately also for the band or orchestra they normally play in.
- Enlarging the number of possibilities for amateur musicians to perform elsewhere.
- Promoting the works of (Dutch) composers abroad.
